We Get Letters: “We Need a New Approach on Guns”

Published on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 | 2:19 pm

First, getting guns off the streets is great work indeed. Having attended ad hoc meetings since 2007, I must say I’ve encountered far too many stakeholders who are willing to discuss the problem of gun violence versus actually supporting grassroots solutions in real time to prevent it.

I speak from experience unfortunately. Starting with saving my own life at a time when it was unpopular to change among my peer group over three decades ago.

A new approach to decreasing gun violence is desperately needed. Our small informal group is constantly in the highest risk areas engaging young people, and at times intervening when scuffles occur. We’re dedicated to being present for peace in the northwest.

We want a practical opportunity to impact lives more consistently and restore hope amongst an often under-served population of our city.
