Weekend Grab-And-Go Meal Service for PUSD Students, Families Extended Through May 17

The popular grab-and-go emergency meal program for Pasadena Unified students and families will continue seven days a week through May 17, thanks to $105,400 in additional funding approved by Pasadena City Council at the April 20 council meeting.

Pasadena Unified School District has been distributing pre-packaged, nutritious grab-and-go meals to students 18 and under, Monday through Friday, at school sites across the city since mid-March due to school closures. Soon after the start of the program, the City of Pasadena partnered with the school district to expand meal service to weekends for students and their families. So far, nearly 25,000 lunches have been distributed.

Meals are distributed 9-11 a.m., seven days a week, at the following PUSD sites. Weekend staffing is provided by the Pasadena Center and Rose Bowl Operating Companies:

Eliot Arts Magnet Academy
2184 N. Lake Ave.
Altadena, CA

Field Elementary
3600 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.
Pasadena, CA

John Muir Early College Magnet High School
1905 Lincoln Ave.
Pasadena, CA

Madison Elementary
515 Ashtabula St.
Pasadena, CA

McKinley K-8 School
325 S Oak Knoll Ave.
Pasadena, CA

Norma Coombs Elementary
2600 Paloma St.
Pasadena, CA

Wilson Middle School

The community is reminded that this program is solely for picking up meals, and meals cannot be consumed on site. Families are encouraged to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed.

In addition to council’s appropriation, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation established a COVID-19 Community Response Fund. To date, the program has raised over $35,000 to support the weekend grab-and-go meal program. Tax-deductible gifts can be made at www.RoseBowlResponseFund.org.

At the April 20 City Council meeting, councilmembers also approved funding for seven local food banks, as well as the San Gabriel Valley YWCA senior meal delivery program. A list of local food banks and meal programs is available at https://www.cityofpasadena.net/food-banks-and-meal-programs/.
