Women’s Cross Country 16th at SoCal Preview Meet

While the Pasadena City College women’s cross country team showed some improvement from its first few meets, the all-freshmen Lancers were only able to place 16th out of 24 scoring teams at the SoCal Preview Meet held Friday at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.

PCC received two fine performances from Christina Elizalde (pictured, Duarte High) and Franceska Millanponce (Temple City) over the 5-kilometer course. Elizalde placed 54th overall (177 runners in the field) with a time of 21 minutes, 11.38 seconds. Millanponce finished in 57th at 21:21.48. The next closest Lancer was Veronica Mejia who crossed the line in 76th at 21:48.19. Also racing for PCC were Noemi Diaz (127th, 23:37.37), Helen Estrada (142nd, 24:31.22) and Ramina Padashi Fard (168th, 26:59.91).

College of the Canyons won the team title while Krista Beck of Antelope Valley won the individual race at 19:13.77. Last season, the Lancers placed 14th at the SoCal Preview and then 17th at the SoCal Championships.

PCC MEN AT SOCAL PREVIEW MEET

The Lancers men were able to race just three individuals and did not score as a team while 30 other colleges accomplished team finishes at the 4-mile, SoCal Preview Meet.

Gabriel Castro placed 103rd at 23:15.35 for the highest PCC finish in the 205-runner field. Jeremy Alvarenga finished 158th (24:46.70) while Jared Perez was 192nd (26:52.01).

The Lancers host the 3rd Rose City Classic this Saturday, Sept. 26 at Hahamongna Watershed Park in La Canada Flintridge.
