Women’s Prayer Day Follows Sunrise Service at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral

On 10:00 a.m. on February 22, 2012, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, presided over the Sunrise Service at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. Organized by the Ladies Society Central Council, the Women’s Day of Prayer immediately followed the service.

The religious portion of the program delivered by Rev. Fr. Nerses Hayrapetyan, Pastor of St. Sarkis Armenian Church in Santa Clarita, and Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, Pastor of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral included Bible readings from reminding the faithful of the significance of the Great Lent as a period of fasting, prayer and self-discipline.

Following the prayer service, Ladies Society Chairs gathered at the Nazareth and Sima Kalaydjian Banquet Hall for a luncheon meeting for an open forum discussion. Former and present Ladies Society Chairs exchanged ideas regarding the general activities of Ladies Societies of the Western Diocese.

Inspirational presentations of the many roles of the Armenian Women in the Church were be delivered by three former LSCC Chairs Meline Ouzounian, Siva Katchiguian and Araxie Boyamian who reflected on the roles of women in the Armenian Apostolic Church. The event luncheon was by the Ladies Society Central Council.
