After allowing an early goal, the Pasadena City College women’s soccer team proceeded to pepper visiting Glendale with scoring opportunities Tuesday afternoon. By the time the final whistle sounded, the Lancers dominated their way to a 5-2 win over the Vaqueros in a non-conference game at Robinson Stadium.

PCC (2-3 overall) outshot Glendale, 23-4, and tied the game in the 20th minute when Sandra Ambrosio took a short pass from Leila Farazdaghi and rifled a 25-yard shot into the upper corner of the net. With 10 minutes left in the first half, the Lancers took a 2-1 lead as Ambrosio’s corner kick was headed in by Michelle Morales.

In the 50th minute, the Lancers struck again with Morales sending a pass out of a corner kick to Rachel Schroeder, who promptly one-timed a drive high in the net from 25 yards out. Six minutes later, PCC made it 4-1 on a combination play in the box as Ani Hemelians passed to Juliana Gurule who tapped it to Farzdaghi for a wide-open shot and goal.

The sophmore midfielder Farazdaghi finished off a 4-point afternoon (goal, two assists) with a cross to Elena Heuze for the team’s fifth straight score in the 77th minute.

“It was gratifying to see our offense score on a variety of planned plays, coming from different directions and by different scorers. These are things we’ve been teaching in practice going back to the summer,” said PCC head coach Reggie Rivas. “After last season, we knew we had to start stressing offense and today we showed we have some firepower out there.”

Schroeder, a sophomore midfielder, fired eight shots, four on goal to lead the PCC shooters. The five goals is the most by a Rivas-head coached team in his three seasons, and the most since he was an assistant in 2012 when PCC had eight in a win over El Camino College-Compton Center that ended South Coast Conference play that season.

Jackelyn Alarcon scored Glendale’s first goal in the fourth minute and the Vaqueros (0-3-1) finished off the game’s scoring in the 87th minute on a hard shot by Ashlie Barillas.

The Lancers next play at Fullerton on Friday, Sept. 25 in a 4 p.m. game.
