The YWCA’s 21-Day Stand Against Racism Challenge is an activity that aims to help people learn about the impact of racial and social injustice on their community and identfiy action steps to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.

The challenge, previously known as the 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge, launches virtually Monday, April 4. It will run Monday through Friday until May 2.

Participants of the challenge will have the opportunity to learn about racial inequity within the following topics: Critical Race Theory, Reproductive Justice, Living Wage and Film and Television.

They will also be provided with daily challenges to complete from reading an article to listening to a podcast and more, and they can access all these through the challenge website or through a downloadable app.

“The Challenge stems from the idea that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. It is an exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice issues, particularly regarding the concepts of race, power, and privilege,” Tara Peterson, Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Glendale and Pasadena said.

Peterson said aside from the action steps participants are encouraged to complete each week, they can also participate in YWCA’s Instagram live conversations on the above-mentioned topics with local community members, activists, and social media influencers on its channel @ywcagp.

Aside from English, the Challenge will also be accessible in Spanish, according to Peterson.

The 21-Day Stand Against Racism Challenge challenge will be conducted in partnership with Saybrook University for the second year in a row.

“This year, Saybrook will conduct the national analysis of impact data for over 80 participating YWCA chapters and approximately 60,000 individuals. Saybrook will develop a comprehensive report on the impact of the event to give us a better understanding of racism in America today,” said President of Saybrook University Dr. Nathan Long. “It has been such a great opportunity to partner with our community and we look forward to future collaborative efforts.”

Meanwhile, Peterson also urged members of the community to donate to YWCA to help sustain its racial equity work, which according to her is underfunded.

“In order for organizations like ours to continue to provide high-quality programming like our Stand Against Racism challenge, we hope folks will consider contributing $21 to sustain this work.”

“Your help towards the cost of creating and hosting the challenge assures that resources like this are widely accessible to all and help advance our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.”
