Students’ Commitment to Sustainability Shines
Composting is organic matter that has been decomposed to make fertilizer or soil amendment (a product which is added to soil to improve the soil’s physical qualities, especially its ability to provide nutrition for plants). It also cuts down on food waste in landfills and can help you start your own garden.
The Green Team at High Point Academy is promoting use composting in the local community and donating surplus food to the hungry.
High Point Academy’s Green Philosophy echoes our mission of providing a nurturing environment that enables each student to flourish physically, morally and socially as well as academically. By teaching students to care for their planet, they are helping them to grow into healthy, happy, responsible and caring individuals who will create a more secure world in which to thrive.
HPA has adopted a school-wide practice of using “compostable tableware” for its lunch program and all its social events. These products are made from plants, not plastic and can be disposed of in the compost container at one of three locations around campus.
High Point Academy is located on 1720 Kinneloa Canyon Road. Call (626) 798-8989 or visit www.highpointacademy.org.
