Copland House’s Award Winning “What’s the Score?” Program Brings Expanding Initiative to Pasadena High School
Copland House of New York announces the first “named” commission in its award-winning What’s the Score? program! The house is grateful to Elaine and Michael Diamond of Los Angeles for their generous support, which enables them to bring their steadily-expanding initiative to Pasadena High School for the first time!
The ultra-versatile composer Jack Van Zandt will be writing a new symphonic work for the combined wind and string ensembles. During the semester, he’ll guide the student musicians on an ear-opening, parallel journey through the creative process as the new work gradually takes shape.

About Copland House
Built around 1940, the prairie-style home is spacious yet unassuming, and reflects Copland’s rugged elegance and natural dignity. Now a National Historic Landmark and an Official Project of the federal Save America’s Treasures program, Copland House is the only composer’s home in the United States devoted to nurturing and renewing America’s rich musical heritage through a broad range of activities and to fostering greater public awareness and appreciation of the nation’s composers and their work. Building upon Aaron Copland’s seminal artistic and personal legacies, it furthers this mission through composer residencies; live, broadcast, and recorded performances; and educational and community outreach programs. http://www.coplandhouse.org/
