Alverno Welcomes Japanese Visitors from Uekusa Gakuen

Last week, Alverno Heights Academy welcomed students from its Japanese sister school Uekusa Gakuen. Together, students from both schools exchanged a small part of what life is like in their hometowns.

After giving brief tours to the visitors, Alverno students shared some American music and dances in a large circle on the terrace, and Uekusa Gakuen students played some Japanese pop songs.

During lunch and break, Alverno students exchanged gifts with visitors, and the young women from Japan taught the students origami, a traditional paper folding art.

To end the day, both schools gave performances including a jazz/hip hop dance routine by Alverno’s Dance Club, an ASL Dance performance of Fight Song by Sara Bareilles with both the ASL Club and Dance Club, and a Zumba workout taught by AHA Zumba class.

Uekusa Gakuen students performed a popular Japanese dance, a traditional Japanese dance, a scene and song from Disney’s Aladdin, a solo ballet dance, and a few cheer routines.
