Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School celebrated its 3rd Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2022. The color guard has been provided by the United States Marine Corps Fourth Division, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment located here in Pasadena.

The purpose of this celebration is to honor all retired and active duty military for their dedication and sacrifices for our country.

ABVM invites retired and active duty military to attend this celebration that begins with a color guard ceremony. The school’s student body president gives a speech on the history of Veterans Day and the importance of honoring it. One student is also selected each year to sing our country’s national anthem. Following the color guard ceremony is a hospitality reception provided by the PTO. Parishioners who are also veterans from various armed forces provide a display of military gear and photos dating back to WW11. Each year we have also had on display a WW11 army jeep.

The highlight of the celebration is a Q & A with veterans and students from Grades 5-8. The students prepare questions in advance to ask the veterans. Each veteran shares a short bio about which branch they served and during what era, as well as experiences that are appropriate for the students to hear. They have all served our country proudly with no regrets, but they all stress one thing in common, the importance of getting an education first before they join the service.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School is located at 2660 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena. For information call (626) 793-2089, email school@abvmpasadena.org or visit school.abvmpasadena.org.
