Big Service Day at Chandler Benefits the Pasadena Community

Chandler School thanks everyone for coming out to share the love this season at the annual Big Service Day on Saturday, February 3!

With your generous donations of materials and time, you assembled more than 400 snack packs for “My Friend’s Place” and Union Station, 100 Valentine’s care packages for Villa Esperanza, 200 craft packs for the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena, and hundreds of hand-crafted Valentine’s Day cards that will spread joy throughout the community.

This year, Chandler student artists and service leaders also inspired the creation of the Community Marketplace, where they raised an additional $1,300 to benefit Pasadena Humane, Children’s Hunger Fund and My Friend’s Place. Special thanks extend to Penelope L. ‘27, Shannon D. ‘29 and Callie L. ‘29, Arya A. ‘30, Ms. Zemel and the Arts Honors Society for spearheading this special initiative and inspiring their classmates to join them in service to others.

During the afternoon, everyone had the privilege of hearing from Chandler alumni Susan Dutra ‘94, the director of development for My Friend’s Place, and Jenny Seto ‘01, philanthropy officer for Villa Esperanza who shared the significance of the day’s service and its impact on the communities they serve.

Welcoming back our alumni for the event was truly heartwarming. Their presence united them with current students, families, and faculty in a collaborative effort to give back and strengthen the ties within our community. Together, we work towards the same goal — to serve the greater community, recognizing that as much is given to us, much is expected from us.

Research suggests that Gratitude is a key to Happiness. If so, we are a happy bunch! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and administrators who came together to make this event a success. Thank you again for your commitment to caring and for sharing with us all the value of community.
