Crestview Sixth Graders Explore, Learn, and Grow at Catalina Island’s Environmental Leadership Camp

Last week, Crestview Preparatory School’s 6th graders traveled to Catalina Island to attend camp at the Catalina Environmental Leadership Program (CELP). Guided by Crestview chaperones and CELP instructors, students snorkeled through kelp forests, kayaked the rugged coastline, and hiked the surrounding hills. Sixth graders took part in team-building activities and service projects, including turning compost in CELP’s garden and removing an invasive plant species to support native habitats. They also created and performed skits, roasted marshmallows for s’mores, and sang songs during campfire time. Throughout camp, instructors wove in CELP’s guiding principles: everything runs on energy, nothing is wasted in nature, biodiversity is good, and everything is connected. It was a trip of growth, discovery, and lasting memories.
