Immaculate Heart Captures Third Consecutive State Fencing Title in Women’s Foil, Finishes Overall State Runner-Up

Immaculate Heart’s High School’s fencing team delivered an exceptional performance at the recent Fencing state championships, held at Chaminade High School, capturing the Women’s Foil State Championship for the third consecutive year and earning the title of Overall State Runner-Up.

Building on a strong season, Immaculate Heart qualified two teams, Foil and Epee, for the championship, with the top three fencers in each weapon advancing based on individual results.

Senior Rosie Lay led the Pandas with a standout showing, earning third place in Women’s Foil and finishing seventh in Epee. Additional Women’s Foil results included Shandi De Padua in 13th place and senior Grace Suarez in 16th. In Epee, Jacqueline Khatchadourian placed 20th and Grace Riley finished 30th, contributing to a well-rounded team performance.

“Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar with their discipline and competitive spirit,” said Athletic Director Kevin Cadenas. “To win a third straight state title in Women’s Foil while also finishing as overall runner-up is an incredible achievement. We are so proud of the way this team represented Immaculate Heart.”

With many team members new to fencing this season, the Pandas demonstrated remarkable growth and determination under the leadership of seniors Rosie Lay and Grace Suarez. Their guidance helped shape a cohesive team that made its mark at the state level.

Cadenas also expressed gratitude for the program’s coaching leadership. “We are deeply thankful to Coach Carla Corbit of the Beverly Hills Fencers Club for her expertise, mentorship, and unwavering support of our student-athletes. Her leadership has been instrumental in building a program defined by excellence.”

Looking ahead, Lay will continue her fencing career at Brandeis University as a member of their NCAA Women’s Foil and Epee team, while Suarez will compete with the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Tigers Fencing Team.

Immaculate Heart celebrates the accomplishments of its entire Middle & High School fencing teams and looks forward to the continued growth of this dynamic program.
