Learning Beyond the Classroom: First Graders Discover Nature’s Lessons at Switzer Falls

Pasadena Waldorf School’s first graders embarked on an unforgettable journey to Switzer Falls, demonstrating that some of the most meaningful lessons come straight from exploring the natural world. The young students discovered that the forest itself becomes a living classroom, where every rock, stream, and towering tree offers opportunities for wonder and learning.

Through this immersive outdoor experience, the children developed not only physical stamina and environmental awareness but also a deeper connection to the landscapes that surround their community. Switzer Falls is located in the Angeles National Forest, in the San Gabriel Mountains, accessible via the Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2) near La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena. It’s a popular hiking spot with the trailhead at the Switzer Picnic Area.
