Maranatha Students Discuss Philosophical Proofs for God’s Existence with Professor Peter Adamson
On Thursday, November 17, the Philosophy and Apologetics classes combined to discuss philosophical proofs for God’s existence with world renowned philosopher, Peter Adamson. Adamson is a Philosophy professor at the Munich School of Ancient Philosophy in Munich, Germany. At 8:00 a.m. (PST) and 5:00 p.m. (CET), Maranatha philosophy students connected with Adamson via Skype.
The students who had spent the month of October studying classic and contemporary philosophical proofs for God’s existence listened as Adamson lectured on the Ontological argument (Anselm of Canterbury) and the Demonstration of Truthfulness argument (Avicenna). After his lecture, Adamson revealed to the class that he is an atheist. The students then exchanged questions and answers with Adamson for the remainder of the class time.
At the end of the discussion, Adamson expressed that he was highly impressed with the student’s questions which reflected a thorough understanding of the philosophical proofs for God’s existence. He praised Maranatha High School for introducing philosophy to high school students through the philosophy and apologetics courses.
