Octavia E. Butler Magnet Music Teacher Cassandra Nevarez Honored During Big Day for Teachers

Congratulations to Band and Orchestra Director and Teacher Cassandra Nevarez of Octavia E. Butler Magnet (OEB). The Tournament of Roses and College Football Playoff Foundation celebrated her with a special recognition during their Big Day for Teachers as part of Extra Yard for Teachers Week.

Under Ms. Nevarez’s leadership, OEB’s orchestra has grown from just seven students to 70, creating a vibrant program where students develop their musical talents, confidence, and sense of community.

Ms. Nevarez received a special surprise recognition from Tournament of Roses President Terry Madigan, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth J. Blanco, and the OEB leadership team. Her work represents the dedication of PUSD music educators who nurture student talent across the district, including the young musicians who go on to represent PUSD as members of the PUSD All-Star Band. “Congratulations, Ms. Nevarez!”
