Pasadena High School Physics Students Explore Motion Through Graphing

Students in Mr. Traeger’s Physics of the Universe classes at Pasadena High School investigated constant velocity by measuring a car’s motion and creating position-time graphs. Using a metronome on their phones to mark one-second intervals, students made chalk marks on the ground to record the car’s position at each interval. They then used measuring tapes to determine the distance of each mark from the starting point. With these measurements, students constructed position-time graphs and calculated the car’s velocity by determining the slope of the best-fit line, applying physics concepts to real-world motion.
