Pasadena High School’s AP Biology Class Create Electrophoresis Gels

On Thursday, Pasadena High School’s AP Biology classes made electrophoresis gels. The students used agarose and 1x SB buffer. On Friday, the students will load samples into their gels and run them to analyze the samples. Gel electrophoresis, one of the most common laboratory techniques in molecular biology, has a wide range of applications in the life sciences. It’s also a powerful technique used to manipulate DNA and as an analytical tool, such as in DNA fingerprinting. It is used as a platform to expose high school students to the active process of scientific inquiry in general, while specifically teaching electrophoresis. “It was a good day to be a Bulldog!”
