Pasadena Schools Make Progress On Fire Cleanup, Offer Support Services
Campuses Remain Closed as District Removes 10 Tons of Debris, Sanitizes Classrooms
The Pasadena Unified School District is making significant progress in cleaning up damage from the recent fire, while providing essential services to students and families during campus closures, according to a report Sunday, Jan. 12, from Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco.
In a community update, PUSD leadership expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from students, families, and staff as they address the fire’s impacts. District crews have removed 10 tons of fallen green debris and completed thorough cleaning and sanitization of more than 100 classrooms across seven school sites.
While schools remain closed this week, the district has implemented several support measures. Students with devices can access self-directed online learning options through Canvas, available via Clever or directly at http://gopusd.com/learning. The online resources are organized by grade span for elementary students and by subject area for secondary students.
PUSD is operating Grab & Go meal services at three locations: Madison Elementary (515 Ashtabula St., Pasadena, CA 91104), Wilson Campus (300 Madre St. Pasadena, CA 91107), and McKinley School (325 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101). The meal service runs weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The district has also partnered with community organizations to provide childcare services at various locations for PUSD students during the closure. Detailed information about childcare options is available in an informational flyer from the district.
“Our top priority is to get our students back into in-person learning as soon as it is safe,” PUSD leadership stated in the community update.
