Pasadena Unified School District Launches New Website

After months of planning and listening to feedback from parents, students and community stakeholders on how the district can improve its communications, the Pasadena Unified School District launched its new website Monday, May 2, 2016 in one of many steps PUSD is taking to become more welcoming, informative and responsive.

Superintendent Brian McDonald shared, “Today, we launched the new customer-focused school district website that reflects what PUSD is today: a community of schools that offer excellent educational choices for the families of Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre — and beyond! This year, the Board of Education and I united around the strategic directive of improving customer service. The new website moves us further in being more responsive in keeping our families and stakeholders engaged in celebratory stories, important services and programs, enrollment options and a calendar of events.”

PUSD invites families and the community to explore the website, including videos, calendars and other features. The district’s Office of Communications curates news and videos about music and arts performances, student and teacher awards, school events and much more. The site is available in multiple languages, is easily searchable, accessible and adapts to mobile devices.

Over the summer, PUSD will continue to build out the website to feature more information on schools and district services to keep everyone informed and engaged in PUSD. In the fall, PUSD is planning to enhance the website so users can sign up for alerts customized to their interests.

“The website will continue to evolve as additional needs are identified,” said Mercy Santoro, Associate Superintendent of School Services. “The focus going forward will be on building content on the school pages that features unique programs, and information that will improve navigation of the overall school services and programs. Short informational video spotlights highlighting district services is another area the Communications team is working to ensure visitors can get timely information to access program and services.”

What is unique about the launch of the district’s new PUSD website is the collaboration with the City of Pasadena. PUSD worked closely with the City’s print shop team to update school logos and to create a consistent look for each school site that brings out an identity that aligns with PUSD, but also captures what is special about each school. The district has been collaborating with the City this past academic year to develop its marketing materials and expects to continue this school/city partnership in the coming year.

The website is one of many steps PUSD is taking to position itself in becoming more customer-focused. The Communications team is working with district, city leaders and community partners to improve the overall customer experience and brand identity. In summer 2016, the district will review and recommend a series of next steps intended to be implemented next academic year that will lead to better communication and customer experience outcomes.
