Sierra Madre Middle School Shines in Mock Trial Showcase and Countywide Competition

Sierra Madre Middle School’s Mock Trial Team recently took center stage during a special Mock Trial Showcase held inside the Pasadena High School Law and Public Service Academy courtroom, where the Honorable Judge Hollingsworth presided over the proceedings. The showcase capped off an exciting season following the team’s strong performance at this year’s Mock Trial Competition at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

Competing alongside schools from across the San Gabriel Valley, SMMS students demonstrated impressive skill and professionalism—first serving as the Prosecution Team in Round 1, then switching roles to compete as the Defense Team in Round 2. Team members also stepped into essential courtroom roles including Bailiff, Witnesses, Journalists, and Courtroom Artists, contributing to a dynamic and well-rounded showing.

Special recognition went to Malcolm Rosenfelt (Prosecutor, Round 1) and Leah Wedel (Defense Attorney, Round 2), who were selected as the team’s Most Valuable Participants. Madeline Howard earned an Honorable Mention for her work as a Prosecuting Attorney, and Liam Kao secured 2nd place in the People’s Choice Contest for Court Journalists.

It was a memorable season for SMMS—filled with learning, leadership, and well-deserved accolades.
