Summer Improvements Spruce up South Pasadena High School Cafeteria

While many school site improvements take place during the summer when students are on break, the SPHS cafeteria is getting a makeover with help from some student artists. The students are painting the wall of the SPHS cafeteria’s Tiger Express with fresh fruits and vegetables to inspire healthy food choices. The improved express area will offer plant-based options such as fresh salads, fruit and yogurt parfaits, and veggie wraps.

The dining area of the main cafeteria also will debut a new look and new offerings this fall with a scratch-made approach to menu selections plus streamlined service areas, updated signage, and colorful graphics.

Many of the upgrades are funded by a state grant, earned by the SPUSD Nutrition Services Department. The grant will help purchase new and updated equipment that supports freshly prepared meals using minimally processed and sustainable food. The grant also is designed to support programs that expand meal options and reduce waste.

SPUSD thanks the student artists for their help and keeping an eye out for new selections this fall.
