Waverly High School Students Explore Los Angeles Public Space and Public Art

Waverly high school students set Out for a day in Los Angeles to explore public space and public art as part of the Social Justice Seminar. Participating Waverly students ventured to the Metro K Line to visit Here: Arts & Culture Along the K. This exhibit showcased art in eight metro stations and highlight the culture and expressions of the communities where they stand.

The students also visited the Museum of African American Art to learn more about their partnership with Metro. They had the honor of speaking with Keasha Dumas Heath, Executive Director of the museum. She gave a brief history of the museum and shared a bit of her journey from museum worker in high school to executive director. The Waverly School is grateful she had time to speak with Waverly students and talk about the community’s relationship to the art.
