All ready for Thanksgiving?

Got the menu planned? Ready for some shopping? Ready to watch football games from empty stadiums? Got the computer checked out and all your Zoom links ready to e-mail?

Since your 2020 Thanksgiving may be just your immediate household, gathering with friends and family for a meal over a cozy laptop, you may as well make the evening even more memorable.

With that in mind, we visited Slater’s 50/50 in Old Pasadena on Friday for their take on the traditional Turkey Day meal, a Thanksgiving burger, and guess what? It was awesome.

“At Slater’s 50/50, we enjoy putting our own ‘slaterized’ spin on flavors that our guests know and love, and this Thanksgiving is no exception,” says Ernie Romo, Chief Operating Officer of Slater’s 50/50. “Our Thanksgiving Burger puts all the classic flavors of Thanksgiving into the palm of your hands, and we’re very excited to launch the pumpkin pie milkshake that will surely get our guests in the holiday spirit.”

The holiday-themed Thanksgiving Burger at Slater’s 50/50 starts with a ⅓ lb turkey patty that’s filled with a brioche stuffing, turkey gravy, sage mayo, cranberry sauce, and garlic & sage aioli on a honey wheat bun. The result is like eating your whole Thanksgiving table in about ten bites. We mean that in a good way. The burger also comes with a large fistful of sweet potato fries, for the perfect autumn crunch.

This from a restaurant that once featured the foot-high “Sexxtecstacy” that featured a whole grilled cheese sandwich amidst several layers of beef/bacon patties and buns and beef/bacon patties. So they’re all about the crazy idea.

And if that isn’t enough Thanksgiving with a capital “T” for you, then add to the feast with the aforementioned Slater’s Pumpkin Pie Milkshake. The towering delight is made with a vanilla ice cream base, 100% pumpkin puree, and a crumbled graham cracker crust, all of which oozes happily down the sides of the glass. Then the whole affair is stacked with whipped cream, caramel, cinnamon and a slice of fresh pumpkin pie on top. Yes, a whole slice of pumpkin pie right on top of the whole beeswax. We split ours into two glasses and we were both quite full, thankyouverymuch.

You might want to order online and stop by Wednesday and get one to devour and one to refrigerate, since, while the restaurant is generally open 11a .m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, “Thanksgiving may affect hours,” says their website.

Slaters 50/50 is at 61 North Raymond Ave. Pasadena, CA. (626)765-9700. www.Slaters5050.com. Delivery available through DoorDash, Postmates and Grubhub.
