A bright, clear Sunday spring morning brought more than a thousand pet lovers, mostly dog owners, to Brookside Park alongside the Rose Bowl for the 25th annual Wiggle Waggle Walk and Run, to benefit the Pasadena Humane Society.

Dogs of all sizes and shapes, from tiny mops at the end of leashes to colt-like Great Danes, and all breeds in between, left the starting line in Brookside Park at 9 a.m. to head up to two courses along the Rose Bowl, one a short one-mile loop, and the other a full 5K around the stadium.

A range of  booths offering community services, pet foods and pet gifts and toys, lined the park, as hundreds of dogs, many in yellow bandanas,  eagerly awaited the start of the event.

“This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year,” said Kevin McManus, communications manager for the Humane Society, just before the run/walk began.

“Our goal this year was $175,000, and we’ve already surpassed that, so we are hoping to top last year which ended up being about $250,000.”

As McManus described, the Pasadena Humane Society offers a wide range of services for pet owners.

“Now that we are coming out of the pandemic,” he continued, “it’s really great that we are able to get all of our supporters together again here.”

McManus also emphasized that the Humane Society had a number of adoptable animals available at the event itself, and more at its shelter on Raymond Avenue.

I think it’s a really important message that we need to adopt,” he stressed. “If you are looking to add a new family friend, make sure your pet is adopted.”

Pasadena Vice-Mayor Felicia Williams  brought her 11 year-old Great Dane, “Pandora,” to the event, saying that this was only her second time at the walk and that she hoped to participate again next year.

LA County Fifth District Supervisor Kathyrn Barger circled the Rose Bowl with the dog owners, but explained that her own very senior dog was at home and that she would be walking him upon her return home later that morning.

The Pasadena Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe haven for animals in need. The organization offers a variety of services, including animal rescue, adoption, spay/neuter, and lost pet services. The Pasadena Humane Society is committed to making a difference in the lives of animals and their families.
