An Evening Among the Roses Celebrates LGBTQ+ Contributions to The Huntington

Published on May 2, 2023

The annual An Evening Among the Roses event at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens is just around the corner on Friday, June 2. This one-night-only garden party is a chance to celebrate and recognize the many contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) members of the community to The Huntington.

Guests are invited to attend in fanciful garden party attire for an unforgettable evening under the stars and among a rainbow of blooms in the spectacular Rose Garden. The event features music, specialty cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing.

The festivities will begin with a VIP Reception from 6–7 p.m. on the south terrace of the Huntington Art Gallery. VIP guests will enjoy an exclusive cocktail reception and a special performance by Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles. This world-renowned LGBTQ+ mariachi band was founded in 2000 and is recognized as the first of its kind. The mission of Mariachi Arcoiris is to create a safe place for other queer musicians to come together, rehearse, and perform music free of bullying, mocking, and harassment. The band’s name, Arcoiris, means “rainbow” in

Spanish and is a fitting tribute to the diversity of its members, including Natalia Melendez, the first transgender woman in the history of mariachi.

Following the VIP Reception, the party will continue from 7–10 p.m. in the Rose Garden. Guests will be treated to another performance by Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, as well as other special performances throughout the night.

Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy specialty cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing among the stunning Rose Garden. The event is a celebration of the contributions of LGBTQ+ members of the community and a chance to come together and enjoy the beauty of The Huntington.
