‘Be Present, Hold Space’ with Julieta Reynoso

The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena will be presenting teaching artist Julieta Reynoso on Thursday, March 4, as she hosts “Be Present, Hold Space,” a lightly moderated hour for friends of the Armory and the community to share, listen and just be present with one another.

In this free online event, Reynoso, who has also been a preschool teacher and a camp counselor, will lead a discussion on the role that art-making has played in people’s lives during the pandemic, as well as the role of “making” in general — be it sourdough bread, pandemic gardens, cloth masks, or anything else.

“Be Present, Hold Space” was born out of a necessity to continue the Armory’s tradition of sharing creativity despite the pandemic. Drawing some inspiration from Exquisite LA and their surrealist game, “Exquisite Corpse,” each episode of the series features an L.A. artist who then picks the next artist to host the show, creating a communal portrait of the current Los Angeles art world.

“As each guest passes the space from one to the next, we will begin to track a creative lineage that underlines our rich creative and cultural fabric at the Armory and welcome in new layers of community,” the Armory said.

Reynoso was born in Mexico City and raised in Los Angeles, where she has walked parallel paths in education and the arts. She feels fortunate to have worked with organizations whose values include a focus on socio-emotional development, access to the arts, a connection to nature, and a commitment to social justice.

She enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, making things out of clay, screen-printing, and taking pictures. She spends time with her son and family and their dog, Loki Rosso.
