Celebrates Organic Agriculture on Sunday

Published on Sep 11, 2021

Green Life Food Market, an annual event that celebrates organic agriculture and promotes a healthy, sustainable, and eco-friendly way of life, is happening in Pasadena on Sunday, September 12, from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Organized by Shumei America, whose headquarters in Pasadena, Green Life Food Market will feature good healthy food, wine, crafts, flowers, taiko drumming, giveaways, raffle, and lost of fun.

The event seeks to cultivate a wholesome community based on the global Shumei Natural Agriculture movement, which aims to develop a respect and concern for nature, and an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The movement also aims to encourage participation among its members in creating a solution-based community wherever they are.

Shumei Natural Agriculture was introduced in the 1930s in Japan by Mokichi Okada as a method that understands the natural world as an organic, living, and spiritual being. The movement eliminates the use of any chemicals or additives, such as herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and manure, in its farming methods.

From farm to market, Shumei Natural Agriculture fosters an attitude of trust, gratitude and care which carries forth into relationships between farmers and consumers; teaches consumers to appreciate nature’s sustenance and the importance of food safety and food security; and encourages consumers to buy, cook and eat local and seasonal foods thereby honoring local cuisine and traditions that respect nature’s cycle. These  principles are what the Green Life Food Market event on Sunday seeks to promote among the local population.

Green Life Food Market will be held at Shumei America’s location at 2430 E. Colorado Blvd.

Aside from healthy food, visitors will also enjoy good home gardening advice onsite, and be treated to an Ikebana exhibition by Ikebana Studio M coming in from San Marino.

Attendance is free but registration is required. To register, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/green-life-food-market-tickets-164891999409?aff=ebdssbcitybrowse&keep_tld=1.
