Cleaning Up the American Dream

Small business opportunity could jump start your personal economic engine for less than the price of a used car

Owning your own business is the dream of so many Americans.

With hard work and a lot of money, you could own your own nationally franchised sandwich shop. You know the one. With a lot more hard work and a lot more money, you could be a part of the world’s largest hamburger restaurant chain. Yes, that one.

But with a healthy amount of work, and a significantly less amount of money, you could own your own small business with dramatic earning potential, for less than the price of a used, or even a new car.

Aaron Ovad, owner of Drymaster systems, has sold hundreds of those dreams for more than two decades now.

The idea is simple: there are billions of feet of carpet purchased in the US every year. That carpet needs to be cleaned—along with upholstery, area rugs, mattress, tile and grout, even dryer vents and ducts in the home or business.

Which is where his company, Drymasters, comes in.

Aaron sells new owners a business package for carpet cleaning, area rugs, upholstery cleaning, tile or duct cleaning.

“We have all kinds of business packages they can choose from,” said Aaron in a recent interview.

“We ship them everything and we’ll train them and give them step-by-step training and coaching on how to start the business, how to run this business from anywhere, how to use the equipment and how to give estimates.” He said.

Aaron’s company literally shows new owners how to use the solutions, how to dilute it, and when to dilute it.

“Of course,” Aaron added, “Very importantly, we’ll also teach them how to market the business both online and offline, to help them get jobs lined up pretty fast and within days.”

A remarkable perk of being a DryMaster authorized affiliate is the surprisingly low start-up cost of a carpet cleaning business. The main reason for the low cost? DryMaster is not a franchise, Aaron explained.

There are no franchise fees, and no high start-up costs that can range from $50,000-$150,000, and unlike with those sandwich and burger chains, owners never have to share their profits with any other company. There are also no licensing or monthly royalty fees.

According to their business guide, DryMaster start-ups can cost anywhere from $2,030 to $12,595, compared to the roughly $50,000-150,000 or more price tag of other carpet cleaning franchises. A 2014 Honda Accord has an average list price of $15,700.

The DryMaster Complete Professional Carpet Cleaning Business Package, for example, costs $3,790. The initial, one-time investment includes the Drymaster™ patented “dry formula” carpet extraction system, Drymaster formula patented carpet detergents, the “Getting Started” business manual, as well as unlimited and dedicated personal coach, along with promotional tools and access to an online affiliate portal.
DryMaster also offers financing options to qualified individuals.

And, according to the company website and business guide, DryMaster™ affiliates can choose from three business models— the owner being the sole technician (the one who does the carpet cleaning); or employing and paying one or more technicians to assist you, or employing technicians who do all the carpet cleaning.

“Our affiliates are successful and happily running their business. “There’s no reason why it won’t be able to be successful,” said Aaron. “The market is there, the business is there, and the opportunity to know how to grab it. And of course we help them. We help them to get to that point. We train them and coach them. We give them all the tools, whatever they need to run a successful business.”

Clearly, it’s a business opportunity where a resourceful owner could clean up.
