What does Batman enjoy eating when he isn’t defending the city, keeping an eye out for nefarious baddies, and serving as a brave and stalwart symbol of justice?

A powerful figure like Batman must weave a lot of protein-rich foods into his day-to-day meals, but occasionally there have to be sweet treats to celebrate victories for justice.

To help the sweeter side of things, there is Randy’s Donuts.

Today, on Batman Day, Randy’s Donuts will be offering a free doughnut and coffee, with purchase, to anyone dressed as Batman.

The Caped Crusader, according to NBC4 News, will be honored all day long and at all Randy’s locations around Los Angeles, including the new shop on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena.

“Batman outfits are determined based on Randy’s Donuts discretion at each location,” according to Randy’s rules, meaning you’ll probably want to go a bit beyond donning a cape if you want to enjoy the giveaway.

You’ll also want to state “I am Batman” to enjoy that with-purchase coffee and doughnut.

Batman Day, according to nationaltoday.com, is a global event. Every Sept. 21, people celebrate Batman and the ageless storytelling of his life through comic books and movies, states the website.

“Batman’s success over the years makes him a household name, but this day is actually celebrated to commemorate his first appearance ever in ‘Detective Comic’ back in 1939. The day was originally in June in its first year, but was moved around a few times until it found its place on Sept. 21,” according to the website.

“The first Batman Day was officially celebrated on July 23, 2014 to coincide with Comic Con International in San Diego that year. At Comic Con, Batman’s 75 year anniversary was celebrated through Batman merchandise sales, and participating stores sold Batman stock from four different eras of the protagonist’s career. Classic original to modern design,” the site states.

“In 2015, special Batman publications and merchandise were released especially for Batman Day. From then on, Sept. 21 was ultimately decided as the final date for Batman Day. It was discovered that the popularity of this day compared to other characters such as Wonder Woman and Superman, was the humanistic component. Batman is known to have no super powers though he is, in fact, viewed as a superhero. His relatability, bravery and pure athleticism over time gained the brand all its hardcore fans over the years.”

This year marks Batman’s 81st anniversary.

If you’ve got a child with you when visiting Randy’s who happens to be age 15 or younger, Randy’s will treat them to a candy-topped Randy’s Round. (This offer is also good on Halloween.)

Do they need to be wearing a costume on Halloween?

No, but they are welcome to do so.

Please observe all safety policies, like face coverings, when visiting your local Randy’s, and keep physical distancing in mind, too.

Randy’s Donuts is located at 230 S. Lake Ave., Unit No. 2, Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 365-1216 or visit randysdonuts.com.
