Last Day for LightBox! Meet the Creators Behind Your Favorite Films, Animation, Games, TV Shows and Illustrations

This weekend, some of the most acclaimed creatives behind the biggest breakout animation films, series and video games are meeting at Pasadena Convention Center for the LightBox Expo 2022.  The event will welcome 20,000 attendees and host over 125 panels, featuring concept art all-stars discussing art innovation, technology, diversity, and futures in animation from October 14 – 16. Over 500 expert guests will participate, including the minds behind the revolutionary new Netflix series Arcane, acclaimed illustrators, visual artists, producers and graphic artists at Disney and Pixar, Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios animation series, Nickelodeon Animation Studio and Paramount Animation, the Asian Queens in Animation, and so much more.  

“We could not be happier to welcome LightBox Expo back to Pasadena for their ultimate celebration of the most important players behind the animation entertainment industry,” said Michael Ross, CEO of Pasadena Center Operating Company. “Art and technology innovation has been a part of the Pasadena tapestry throughout our history, and events like these are oftentimes the birthplace of new breakthrough collaborations.”  

This year’s finalists for the Concept Art Award include artists working on projects like Encanto, Turning Red, Dune, The Batman, Moon Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Apex Legends, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Among the recipients of this year’s Concept Art Awards Lifetime Achievement Award is Mary Blair, the legendary concept artist of films including Alice in WonderlandPeter Pan, and Cinderella, who will posthumously receive the award on Saturday, October 15th. For more information, visit https://www.conceptartassociation.com/

“LightBox Expo was created to shine a spotlight on the creators behind your favorite animation, illustrations, games, and live-action movies & TV shows, all under one roof,” said Jim Demonakos, LightBox Expo’s Convention Director. “This year’s event feels like a homecoming. After our debut event in 2019, we moved online, and we’re eager to get back together to celebrate the arts in person.”

Professional categories in the Concept Art Awards honor excellence in character, creature, environment, prop/vehicle, visual development, and color keys across animation, live-action, and video games.

The Concept Art Awards ceremony starts at 6 p.m. and conclude in a VIP After-Party for all nominees.
