On Thursday, March 23, more than 200 guests gathered at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens for Los Angeles Children’s Chorus’ 2023 Spring Gala. The event was a celebration of Associate Artistic Director Mandy Brigham, who was retiring after 22 years of leadership with LACC.

The gala began with a cocktail hour in the stunning Rose Hills Foundation Garden Court, where attendees mingled and enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The atmosphere was electric with excitement as everyone anticipated the upcoming performances and tributes to Mandy.

As guests made their way to Haaga Hall for the formal dinner and program, they were greeted by the sounds of LACC’s remarkable choristers who were already performing. The program was emceed by Kai Ryssdal, host of public radio’s Marketplace, and featured touching tributes to Mandy from current and former choristers, as well as from LACC’s Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz.

Mandy herself took to the stage to say a few words and express her gratitude for the incredible support she had received over the years. The evening also featured performances by LACC’s Young Men’s Ensemble Director Dr. Steven Kronauer, and of course, the choristers themselves.

Throughout the evening, attendees bid on items in a live auction, with all proceeds going to support LACC’s music education programs and need-based scholarship fund. Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who attended, the gala raised nearly $200,000, which will help LACC continue to provide choral music education of the highest quality to young people from diverse backgrounds.
