Hear Diverse Perspectives on the American dream During Independence Day Virtual Book Discussion

Published on Jun 27, 2022

The City of South Pasadena is hosting a virtual Independence Day Virtual Book Discussion on Tuesday, June 28, where you can join the community in a lively discussion about “The American Experiment: Dialogues on a Dream” by David Rubenstein.

The book, published in 2021, is a collection of warm, engaging, and informative interviews with prominent public figures that explore America’s past, present and future. The 27 interviewees include Ken Burns, Billie Jean King, Wynton Marsalis, David McCullough, Sonia Sotomayor, and Cal Ripken, Jr.

Divided into sections called Promise and Principle, Suffering and Sorrow, Restoration and Repair, Invention and Ingenuity, Creation and Culture, and Becoming and Belonging, the interviews reveal diverse perspectives on the American dream and celebrate the great American Experiment.

To actively participate, you are advised to borrow a copy – e-book, e-audiobook, or paper book – from the library and join the discussion over Zoom on Tuesday.

Registered participants will be emailed a link for the online meeting in advance of the event.
