Hillsides Hosts Sponsor Reception for Annual Gala, The Roaring 2020s

On January 28, Hillsides, a foster care and child welfare charity, held a reception for the sponsors of its upcoming gala, The Roaring 2020s. The gala will be held on Saturday, February 29, Leap Year Day, at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena.

Some 80 guests gathered at Pasadena’s Flying A Garage, home to a private collection of American Classic Automobiles, including two cars from the 1920’s, this year’s gala theme. The evening was catered by Onil Chibas Events, who served up a roast beef carving station, mashed potato bar, and passed hor d’oeuvres, including Oysters Rockefeller and cheesy stuffed mushrooms.

During the event, Gala Chair, Stacey Hoppe thanked the gala sponsors which include, The Donald Zonshine Family Foundation, Willis Towers Watson, Pin USA – Mario and Shelly Fiumani, The Walt Disney Company, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Citizens Business Bank, Don and Sally Clark, Jacob Maarse Florists, RUSNAK Auto Group, Kim and Rob Shepherd, Sherm and Marge Telleen, Bank of the West, Joseph M. Following Stacey, car collector and Flying A Garage owner, Aaron Weiss, gave a brief history of his collection. “I have been collecting classic cars for 21 years and opened the Flying A Garage in 2003 when the fleet needed a home. The cars are shown all over the country and each one has some significance to my wife Valerie and I”, said Weiss.

The Roaring 2020s is Hillsides’ largest fundraiser of the year, and supports the 17,000 children and families Hillsides serves. The event will take a step back in time, featuring a Big Band, flapper girls, and Prohibition-Era signature cocktails.

Guests will also have a chance to bid on many live and silent auction items. Highlights include a 10-night all-inclusive cruise on board the Crystal Symphony, Barcelona to Venice, donated by Crystal Cruises; a Barbara Poer Designs signature jewelry piece artisanally created with a strand of pastel pearls, diamonds and rubies; a VIP Rose Bowl Game experience; and a 1-week stay for 2 at New York’s most exclusive new celebrity-owned getaway in Hudson Yards.
