Last Chance: Improve Your Writing with Pasadena Library’s NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program

Published on Nov 28, 2020

Although November is pretty much over, and it’s almost impossible to write a book by the time it ends, that doesn’t mean you can’t try to learn more about writing skills and tips.

Join the Pasadena Public Library on Monday, November 30 for its last virtual NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program, restricted to kids between the ages of 9 and 12.

NaNoWriMo refers to National Novel Writers’ Month, which is November. It is also the name of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes your story matters and facilitates the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program, the group’s flagship program and the world’s largest creative writing event, where thousands of people attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel in November.

NaNoWriMo started in 1999 and since then, hundreds of thousands of people around the world have written with the determination to end the month with 50,000 words of a brand new novel. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents, and they leave as novelists.

Monday, November 30, is the last day of the one-month Young Writers Program this year, but you can still write, do creativity exercises, and encourage other kids to set their word count goals for next year’s program. The event will be live on Zoom.

To register, visit the Pasadena Public Library events calendar online, www.cityofpasadena.net/library/calendar, and click on the November 30, 3 p.m. tab. Fill out and submit the online form. A link to the Zoom event will be sent to your email.
