Learn All About The California-Born Burger Joints, Diners, Fast Food and Restaurants That Changed America

Food historian and chef George Geary will be discussing his book, “Made in California: The California-Born Burger Joints, Diners, Fast Food & Restaurants That Changed America,” in an online event on Wednesday, March 16, 5 to 6 p.m.

The discussion will be on Zoom.

In the book, Geary tells the remarkable stories of the early 20th-century food startups that captured America’s hearts and stomachs, from Bob’s Big Boy to McDonald’s, Winchell’s Donuts to In-N-Out, and Peet’s Coffee to Taco Bell. He tells these stories with more than 200 historic and contemporary photos.

George Geary teaches in over 120 schools worldwide. A regular contributing editor to several magazines and newsletters, he was the former Pastry Chef and production manager for the Wait Disney Corporation and the Marriott Corporation. Before that, he worked in food styling, creating many of the major iconic foods from TV Shows, such as those famous cheesecakes from “Golden Girls.”

Besides writing, Geary owns a culinary tour company where he takes students on culinary adventures of France and major cities of the country. He can be seen on local and national morning news programs. Currently, Geary is the Resident Chef on CBS8 San Diego, and can be seen on “Hallmark’s Home and Family.”

In 2012, he was awarded an International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Culinary Tour Operator Award. In 2014, he was recognized as Culinary Educator of the Year.
