Learn Everything There Is To Know About Pickleball

Published on Feb 8, 2021

While some of us are still doing our part in staying indoors during the pandemic, some of us have been trying to learn new hobbies while socially distancing. One great new hobby you probably haven’t heard about is pickleball.

Pasadena Senior Center invites you to join them on Monday, February 8, at 4 p.m. for a panel discussion and Q&A focusing on the pickleball, a popular sport amongst seniors but possible for everyone.

In this webinar, part of the Cynthia Rosedale Memorial Sports Talk Series, George Avery, pickleball tournament director, event promoter, ambassador, technical rep and coach, will moderate a discussion about a different sport each month.

February’s topic is pickleball. Panelists and experts will provide tips on how to keep mentally and physically fit in pickleball and in life. A Q&A follows every discussion.

The webinar is co-presented by the California Senior Games Association.

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, off Seattle, Washington. Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum, three dads whose kids were bored with their usual summertime activities, are credited for creating the game. Since then, pickleball has evolved from original handmade equipment and simple rules into a popular sport throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In Pasadena, pickleball players have grown fast in numbers, and pickleball courts have been set aside in some of the popular sports venues and parks throughout the City.

The game is growing internationally as well, with many European and Asian countries adding courts.
