“Legal Protection Offered to Our Education Heroes”

A current model estimates that there could be as many as 300,000 deaths from the Covid virus by December, 2020. One of the sadder elements of this horrible pandemic is how it is affecting our educational heroes. In Florida, Texas and other states where teachers are being forced to return to the classroom, teachers are actively seeking ways to protect themselves and their families by making sure that their estate planning is completed.

South Pasadena estate planning attorney William Hayes notes that the preparation of wills, trusts and powers of attorney by teachers and their administrative and support staffs, is a trend that is growing locally. There is also an interest in what strategies are available to cover the long-term care health expenses which are not covered by their health insurance. Proper estate planning can also offer alternatives to people who have inadequate or non-existent long-term care health coverage. Attorney Hayes points out that it is important that everyone understand that long-term care medical expenses are not covered by your health insurance and that each person must personally make arrangements to cover their own long-term care medical bills.

“We understand the distress experienced by teachers in not knowing when they may be required to work in an environment that seriously endangers their health and our law firm wants to support our teachers and their administrative and support staffs, by providing our trust and estate planning services to these educational heroes at 25% off the price which we typically charge for our services.”

“Our office has a special connection to educators because several of the people in our office have formerly been educators or are currently working as substitute teachers. I formerly served on the foundation board which supports our local school district and both my wife and my sister have been educators. Many of my friends are teachers or principals. Lizeth Moore in our office also works as an educator and regularly discusses with her co-workers, the anxiety that our teachers are experiencing. The sentiment expressed by one teacher sums it up for many. “We trained to educate, not to be frontline workers in a petri dish.”

Aside from the threat to life, there are other financial and logistical reasons for why returning to the classroom may be difficult. The Los Angeles School District has approximately 75,000 employees and a half million students. The school superintendent estimates that it would cost $300 per year per person to test all students and staff just once per week. The counter argument presented by experts is that it has been proven that students learn better in a classroom setting. Although it was previously projected that teachers would return to the classrooms on August 18th, that date has now been continued indefinitely.

If you are an educator or otherwise work in education, the Hayes Law Firm will for a limited time continue offering this significant reduction in fees for the creation of your estate plan.
