The Lineage Performing Arts Center in Pasadena has invited the community to join in celebrating Día de los Muertos next week with live performances, family-oriented activities and pan dulce.

The free “Cultivating Traditions” event is scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the center, 920 E. Mountain St., organizers said.

All ages are welcome, and no registration is required.

“‘Cultivating Traditions’ is a community celebration of the traditional Mexican holiday and is inspired by the traditions of the holiday that are passed down from generation to generation,” Lineage said in a written statement.

Event organizer Debbie Ortiz said she wanted to pass down traditions, just as they were passed on to her.

“My great-grandmother cultivated tradition and culture within my family, and she is the inspiration for bringing this event to our community. I want to celebrate that tradition and invite everyone to celebrate those people who have passed down the gift of tradition to you,” she said.

Participants are to include local artists, the Santa Ana dance troupe Danza Artes de México and Cal State Fullerton Chicano Studies Professor José Zamora, according to the center.

Guests are invited to leave photos and offerings from departed loved ones at the performing arts center’s community altar, organizers added. Craft activities are also planned.

All attendees 12 and older must show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of the event, organizers said. Masks are also required.
