On March 14th, a gathering of 220 women celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Luminaires at the Jonathan Club, embracing a gold color theme for tablecloths, wine goblets, and linens to honor this significant milestone. The event featured a Vendor Boutique with a matra “Shop until you drop,” alongside an exciting opportunity drawing offering trips, dinners, and tickets.

The celebration was marked by a champagne welcome toast from Fran Biles, President of the Luminaires, and Benefit Co-Chairs Jinny Dalbeck and Linda Moore. Dr. Deborah Ferrington expressed gratitude for the Luminaires’ sustained support to the Doheny Eye Institute, highlighting March as Women’s History Month and paying tribute to both Carrie Estelle Doheny, founder of the Doheny Eye Institute, and Mary Crary, founder of the Luminaires, along with current President Fran Biles.

Guests were entertained by a dance troupe performing a medley of songs that spanned the five decades of the Luminaires’ existence, complemented by a slide show that depicted a pictorial history of the organization’s fifty years of service. The fashion showcase, featuring designs from Robert Ellis Boutique, transitioned from spring florals to stunning black-tie gowns, captivating attendees.

Since its inception, the Luminaires Founder Chapter, along with the Luminaires Juniors, the Luminaires Orange County Chapter, and Patrons, have collectively raised over $7.5 million for the Doheny Eye Institute. This funding has significantly raised awareness within the greater community about the Institute, thereby enhancing its global standing in ophthalmic research and patient care through increased understanding and support.

Looking ahead, the Luminaires and their volunteer leaders are committed to continuing their philanthropic efforts for the Doheny Eye Institute in Pasadena. For additional information, visit https://theluminaires.org/.
