Most Pasadena City Services Closed on Christmas, New Year’s Day

Published on Dec 25, 2020

Pasadena city officials are reminding residents that City Hall, as well as most other city services, will be closed during Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The Police and Fire departments will continue operating as usual, city officials said in a written statement.

But in other services, including Pasadena Transit, Dial-A-Ride, all public library locations, the Citizens Service Center and the city’s Permit Center will not be operating on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Trash and recycling pickup will have a one-day delay for residents with scheduled pickups on Fridays.

The Pasadena Water and Power Department’s customer service center will be closed during the holidays, but customers can still report power-related emergencies at (626) 744-4673 and water-related emergencies at (626) 744-4138.

Customers may also still access accounts and make payments through the automated phone system at (626) 744-4005 or online at www.PWPweb.com.

“Overnight parking restrictions will not be enforced Dec. 23 through Jan. 3. All parking meters will be free and parking time limits will not be enforced on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1,” according to the city statement. “All other parking violations, including red curb parking and blocking fire hydrants, will be enforced.”

Parks will be open. However, reservations are not available over the holidays, city officials said.

“Because L.A. County remains under the state’s Regional Stay-at-Home Order, gatherings of any size with non-household members are not permitted — except for outdoor worship services and protests, which are constitutionally protected activities.,” the statement said.

“Although distancing ourselves from friends and family is difficult, especially during the holidays, the best way to stop the current surge in COVID-19 infections in our community is to celebrate at home with the people we live with,” the statement added.

“Given current technology, including video chat and virtual meeting platforms, staying connected to our loved ones from afar has never been easier. Please follow the public health guidance to ensure the safest holiday possible,” the statement said.

Pasadenans can drop off Christmas Trees between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday through Jan. 4 for recycling at Eaton Blanche Park, 3100 E. Del Mar Blvd., or at Robinson Park, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., city officials said.

Trees can also be picked up curbside during normal trash pickup days Jan. 4 through Jan. 15.
