Not Too Late to ‘Sample the Secret Sauce’ That Makes Pasadena’s Garfield Heights Such A Delight

The Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association hosts the 13th Garfield Heights’ Home Tour

There’s still time!  But Sunday, Dec. 12 is the final day for this year’s Garfield Heights’ Home Tour so better plan now to sit back, relax and enjoy touring local five houses and gardens to discover the “secret sauce” that makes Pasadena’s second oldest historic district so charming.

One ticket provides access to five virtual (filmed) tours, as well as a colorful tour guidebook with history, architectural details and sponsor information.

Hosts Sandra Clark Davis and Steve Preston introduce this year’s virtual tour.

The homes include a glorious Victorian manse and gardens in the American Colonial Revival style, reflecting the eclectic interests of its owners; a joyful Arts-and-Crafts residence featuring a delightful array of vintage furnishings and objects; a delightful airplane bungalow restored by its owners with a skillfully renovated and colorful kitchen; a sweet Craftsman cottage with a tasteful remodel that brings the kitchen into the center of the home and a thoughtfully designed garden; and an elegant Foursquare home featuring a Bocce Ball court and a hidden surprise.

Each home is distinct in its décor, as owners have interpreted and furnished their homes both to preserve their history and to meet contemporary needs. You will see original fireplaces with ornate mantle pieces, Craftsman-era tiled surrounds, and even a river rock fireplace.

Antique furnishings abound, including a Stickley chair, “Liberty Style” English Arts and Crafts pieces, Roseville pottery and vintage stoves. Features that have long disappeared from homes – hallway sinks, servants’ call buttons and transom window operators – will be on display.

In addition to the virtual tour, ticket holders will receive a downloadable tour booklet with detailed information about the homes featured on the tour.

Tickets at $25 each are now on sale through December 11. Tour houses may be viewed through Sunday, December 12.
