Parson’s Nose Theater will launch its 2025-2026 season with “Bully for You,” an evening of sketches and stories from Anton Chekhov, James Thurber, Jacques Brel, Kathrine Kressmann Taylor and Robert Frost.

Adapted and directed by Artistic Director Lance Davis, the 80-minute program combines humor and sorrow as a way to reflect on the present moment.

Davis said, “The arts are at a crossroads. The nation is in conflict, from relationships to sports to politics, and audiences want to both escape and engage. Do artists stay silent or speak out? The whole purpose of PNT is to allow great writing of the past to build a bridge to today. Hence, Bully for You!”

The first act offers comic material, including “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” the Kingston Trio’s satirical song “Merry Minuet,” James Thurber’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” and Chekhov’s one-act “The Marriage Proposal.” Performers include Mary Chalon, Ivar Brogger, Jill Rogosheske, James Calvert, Marisa Chandler and Davis.

The second act turns tragic with Kathrine Kressmann Taylor’s “Address Unknown.” Performed by Barry Gordon and Paul Perri, the epistolary piece chronicles the friendship between a Jewish art dealer in San Francisco and his German partner as Nazism takes hold in 1933.

Performances run Saturday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. The show runs under 90 minutes with intermission.

The venue is Parson’s Nose Theater, located at 95 North Marengo Avenue in Pasadena, with entrance on Holly Street and parking available on the street or at 150 Holly. Tickets are $15 to $25 and can be purchased at https://www.parsonsnose.com or by calling 626-345-5116.
