When looking at the roster of artists in this wide-ranging exhibition, one might have thought the show was being presented at the Norton Simon or Huntington museums. But, as Rutberg jokingly likes to remind, “the big difference is that people can take these works home.”
Artists such as Edgar Degas, Henri Fantin-Latour, Georges Rouault, Marc Chagall, Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, Francisco Zuniga, Hans Burkhardt, Hannelore Baron, Arman, George Herms, Patrick Graham, Llyn Foulkes, and so many other formidable names of modern and contemporary art make up just some of the gallery’s holdings, so presenting a comprehensive view of the gallery’s holdings is impossible.
The answer to that limitation of space will be answered in a novel curatorial approach – “ART A to Z” will be a revolving exhibition, and as works of art are sold, their new owners will be allowed to take their acquisitions home, and the exhibition will be re-installed as required.
“We always hope people will revisit an exhibition they’ve already seen. As the expression goes, third times the charm, and much like our experience with music, art reveals itself to the viewer just that way,” Rutberg said.
With 27 works spanning nearly 100 years on view in the initial installation of “ART A to Z”, Rutberg said he has selected no fewer than three times that number of works in the queue, covering the entire alphabet, but bemoans that the collection has no artists whose names starts with the letters “I, Q, and Y”.

Reflecting upon the gallery’s first year in Pasadena, Rutberg said he has high hopes in advancing the awareness that art of the caliber one encounters in the area’s formidable museums, is not only available, but is also often affordable to the aspiring as well as to the established collector.
