“Pasadena Grows,” the Pasadena Public Library’s gardening program series that’s currently online, on Satuday, June 12, features Master Gardener Yvonne Savio discussing “Container Gardening Indoors and Outdoors.”

The free webinar is from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Zoom.

Participants are advised to register through https://tinyurl.com/3etch8vx. After registering, meeting details and documents will be emailed to you.

Savio, who grew up in Pasadena and still lives on a 3/4-acre hillside city lot, maintains demonstration and trial gardens in Southern and Northern California, specializing in drought-tolerant techniques for growing vegetables, fruits, perennials, roses, and succulents.

A writer and photographer, Savio documents the creative fun of repurposed tools and garden art. Savio earned degrees in journalism, English literature, art and photography from Cal State LA and Cal State Sacramento. Her horticulture degree is from American River College, Sacramento.

In the early 1980s, Savio helped initiate and develop the Master Gardener Program in Yolo County.

For 15 years, she worked in the Botany and Vegetable Crops Cooperative Extension Departments at UC Davis, where she conferred with statewide vegetable specialists regarding cultural and postharvest handling techniques. She also revitalized the Los Angeles County Master Gardener Volunteer Program, teaching 1,150 Master Gardeners who then served 1.3 million county residents.

Since retiring in 2015, Savio continues to inspire gardeners, making presentations, and providing monthly tips and blogging on her www.GardeningInLA.net website where she invites everyone to submit gardening events and job opportunities open to the public.
