Go Wild Sunday at Pasadena Humane’s Wildlife Day

Published on Oct 6, 2023

Embark on a wild adventure! Pasadena Humane is unleashing the animal lover in you with its annual Wildlife Day, a jungle of excitement and knowledge waiting to be explored.

The fun starts Sunday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. and continues to 2 p.m. at Pasadena Humane’s facility located at 361 S. Raymond Ave.

Open to all ages, this event is free admission and will feature a variety of activities, guest speakers, and other community groups. It will include Wildlife Talks by Pasadena Humane’s wildlife expert Lauren Hamlett, who will talk about coyote behavior at 12 p.m., and natural history at 1 p.m.

Pasadena Audubon Society will also give a talk on backyard bird conservation at 11 a.m. Representatives from the Southwest Herpetological Society, International Bird Rescue will be present, along with Californica Nursery, who will be showcasing wildlife-friendly native plants.

Vendors include Barefoot Seeker Art, Srimoyee Handmade Art, Margaret Gallagher Art and Berbo Studios.

During the event, attendees can connect with local wildlife and conservation nonprofits and learn about the wild animals cared for at Pasadena Humane. They can also meet educational ambassador animals – these are former wildlife patients that, even after healing, can’t survive in the wild – from a variety of local wildlife organizations.

A Vendor Marketplace onsite will offer wildlife-themed goodies and gifts like prints, stickers, magnets, and clothing made by local artists. Attendees can also pick up some wildlife-friendly native plants.

For young animal lovers, this is a great time to learn more about the wildlife commonly treated at the shelter while making fun crafts. They can participate in interactive games and crafts, including creating nest boxes. The activities for kids — although they’re actually designed for enjoyment by anyone of any age — will center around the urban wildlife seen at the shelter, such as squirrels, raccoons, skunks, and opossums.

Pasadena Humane is committed to creating a healthy, sustainable community that values all species. They strive to mitigate the human impact on the natural world through conservation education and rehabilitation.

At their new Sandra J. Goodspeed Wildlife Center in Pasadena, they care for injured, sick and orphaned wildlife with the goal of releasing animals back to the wild.

Space may be limited on Wildlife Sunday, so patrons are advised to reserve a spot early.
