The Pasadena Public Library is joining with the educational organization Mighty Chondria to present an online presentation that invites kids to follow along with simple science experiments using common household items this month.

“Mighty Chondria: Stem For Kids” will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, as well as Aug. 30, via Zoom, organizers said in a written statement. It’s intended for kids ages 9 through 12.

“Dive deeper into science and become a scientist in your own home!” the statement said. “Join us for fun lab activities using household supplies as we explore the different branches of science such as chemistry, earth science and biology.”

Monday’s event requires no supplies in advance.

For the Aug. 30 event, participants will need an 8-inch pie tin, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 1 cup of water and a mini frog figurine, according to the library. The supplies, with the exception of the water, can be picked up at the Hastings Library, 3325 E Orange Grove Blvd.

“Mighty Chondria is a startup organization founded by two highschooler scientists, Alexia and Dana, who are passionate about building equity in science education,” the statement said.

Those interested in taking part were urged to sign up online at pasadena.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=4433&backTo=Calendar&startDate=2021/08/14. Registrants will receive supply pickup instructions via email.
