Local group Pasadena Society of Artists (PSA) is now presenting to the community over 70 pieces of artwork in its upcoming 96th Annual Juried Exhibition at Whites Fine Art Gallery in Montrose, through next month.

Shaney Watters, President of the (PSA) said some of the pieces that will be showcased in the exhibit are influenced by people’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There are some reflections of the current world that we are living through,” Watters said. “It’s fascinating to see how different people respond and express their experience during COVID.”

Watters said the exhibit will showcase a variety of art pieces including paintings, sculptures and traditional vases, among others.

The 71 pieces of artwork that will be presented in the exhibit, made by 53 artists from PSA, were picked by juror Dr. Mika Cho, out of the 125 total submissions.

Cho is a respected arts educator, researcher, consultant, curator and artist of Cal State L.A.

According to Cho, the pieces of artwork that will be presented to the community in the exhibit “does not have unity of content or style.”

“Some of the work certainly reflects the turbulent time that we have experienced since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and individual art practices in two- and three-dimensional works with various conceptual and technical backgrounds; however, the passion in the works of these artists was palpable,” Cho remarked.

According to Watters, some of the works in the collection are not for sale but the vast majority of these are for sale.

“I just hope that people take the time to come and see it. Because it really is some exceptional work and art always looks better in person than it does in photographs,” said Watters.

The exhibit will be open until November 13, according to PSA.

Those who cannot attend the in-person event can view the show online at www.ISSUU.com. The video will remain viewable after the gallery show closes.

PSA, founded in 1925, is a non-profit organization. It’s mission is to present the works of its many talented and creative artists to the community of Pasadena and surrounding areas. For more information regarding its upcoming event, visit www.PasadenaSocietyofArtists.org.
