The Pasadena Educational Network (PEN) successfully held its 13th annual Wine & Spirits Tasting event on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Shakespeare Club’s stunning Italianate Villa Clubhouse in Pasadena. The occasion was a celebration of parents who exemplify PEN’s mission of promoting family involvement in public education in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD).
PEN honored three outstanding PUSD parents – Nia Bailey, Mae-Fay Koenig-Seng, and Warren Skidmore – for their exceptional commitment to their children’s education and their contributions to the community. Pilar Oliva received the PEN Founders Award for her outstanding service to the organization.
The event featured a silent auction, performances by the PHS Jazz Band, varietal wines donated by Silverlake Wine, and a premium tequila tasting donated by Cocktail Cadre. Attendees also enjoyed delicious food from El Cholo and delectable desserts courtesy of Nothing Bundt Cakes.
As a grassroots nonprofit organization founded by parents, for parents, in 2006, PEN’s mission is to promote family participation in public education to benefit all students in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre. PEN provides parent education programs and services to help parents explore, evaluate, and engage with their public schools and represents a collective voice for parents with the PUSD.
