Sip Cosmic Cocktails and Learn About The Grandeur of the Universe

Published on Jan 5, 2021

The Blue Ring Nebula consists of two hollow, cone-shaped clouds of debris moving in opposite directions away from the central star. The base of one cone is traveling almost directly toward Earth. As a result, astronomers looking at the nebula see two circles that partially overlap. (Image is courtesy of Mark Seibert via Carnegie Observatories)

Join the Pasadena Senior Center on Wednesday, January 6, for a new series that dives into the research topics being studied at Carnegie Observatories.

The astronomy series, “Cosmic Cocktail Hour with Carnegie Observatories,” is online at 4 p.m. and will be scheduled monthly, the Pasadena Senior Center said in an announcement.

On Wednesday, Dr. John Mulchaey, Director and Crawford H. Greenewalt Chair at The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science, will host the event and offer insight into two different topics related to “Search for Life in the Universe.”

Dr. Mulchaey’s talk will discuss both types of research underway at Carnegie Observatories, and how Carnegie astronomers and their colleagues worldwide are collaborating to address this exciting challenge.

The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science is Pasadena’s oldest scientific establishment. Founded in 1904, The Observatories today is world-renowned for its research on the evolution of the universe.
